True Blood- Target

I'm not sure how many of you guys are fans of the True Blood series on HBO but my husband sure is. My MIL bought my husband the 1st year of True Blood for over $40. Target had in their ad yesterday it priced at only $17. This is a STEAL at this price. They also had alot of other series like The Office priced at $17. These would make great birthday presents because you never can go wrong with movies!!!!!

thrifty idea

so most of you probably already do this but i thought i'd share just in case. do you guys have veggies that end up going bad in the fridge? Well a great solution is to make veggie broth with them. All you need to make 2 quarts of broth is 8 cups of water/ large onion cut into 10 wedges/ 1 cup of carrots chopped/2 celery ribs chopped/ parsley and salt. Combine all these in a slow cooker and cook on low for 8 hours. Discard the veggies and freeze the broth for up to 3 months. (please excuse any grammer mistakes. I'm trying to post from my phone)

Panera Bread's Broccoli Cheddar Soup -from CDkitchen.com (Also from Babycenter, Cooking for Your Family)

Ingredients
-tablespoon butter, melted, less than $0.05, Wal-mart has I Can't Believe It's not Butter on rollback for $1.62 use $1 coupon from insert or HERE to make it only $0.62 for 4 sticks!!

-1/2 medium onion, chopped, less than $0.25

-1/4 cup melted butter, less than $0.25, see above butter

-1/4 cup flour, $0.50, hmm it's been awhile since I bought flour or seen coupons so this is just a guess-lol

-2 cups half-and-half, $0.75 (I use milk), Coleman is on sale at my local Harvest Foods for $2.00 and I used the insert coupon to make it $1.50

-2 cups chicken stock or bouillon . $0.30, (I use broth), Swanson broth is on rollback for $0.40 and used the coupon from insert to make them $0.30 each.(has 2 cups)

-1/2 lb. fresh broccoli, $0.38(I used frozen) Birds Eye is on rollback for $0.88. Used $.50 coupon from insert to make it only $0.38

-1 cup carrots, julienned, $0.28

salt and pepper to taste , less than $0.05

- 8 ozs. grated sharp cheddar, $1.10. Kraft cheese is $1.60 at Wal-Mart. Used the $1/2 coupon from insert to get them for $1.10 each!

Directions-

Sauté onion in butter. Set aside. Cook melted butter and flour using a whisk over medium heat for 3-5 minutes. Stir constantly and slowly add the milk. Add the chicken broth whisking all the time. Simmer for 20 minutes.
Add the broccoli, carrots and onions. Cook over low heat until the veggies are tender for 20-25 minutes. Add salt and pepper. The soup should be thickened by now. Pour in batches into blender and puree. Return to pot over low heat and add the grated cheese; stir until well blended.

Meal Deal Monday- Broiled Tilapia Parmesan

Okay if you're new to my blog I make a recipe for a family of 4 that is less than $5. This recipe is one of my favorites! The main reason is because it taste so good! But the other is that I LOVE fish but my husband doesn't. Well, guess what? He loves this recipe too!

The total to make this for a family of 4 is only $4.68!!!

Ingredients-

1/4 cup Parmesan cheese, $0.40- Great Value is only $1.58 for 1 cup of Parmesan cheese.

2 tablespoons of butter, $0.20-Blue Bonnet is the cheapest at Wal-mart for butter

1 tablespoon of mayonnaise, $.10

1 lb of tilapia, $3.98- Wal-mart has the frozen tilapia for only $3.98 for a lb(there is about 6 tilapias in the bag)

1/8 teaspoon of basil, black pepper, onion powder, celery salt

Directions-

1.Preheat your oven's broiler. Grease a broiling pan or line pan with aluminum foil.
2.In a small bowl, mix together the Parmesan cheese, butter, mayonnaise . Season with dried basil, pepper, onion powder and celery salt. Mix well and set aside.
3.Arrange fillets in a single layer on the prepared pan. Broil a few inches from the heat for 2 to 3 minutes. Flip the fillets over and broil for a couple more minutes. Remove the fillets from the oven and cover them with the Parmesan cheese mixture on the top side. Broil for 2 more minutes or until the topping is browned and fish flakes easily with a fork. Be careful not to over cook the fish.
